Connor, called in the fan games and fan fiction as Connor MacLyrr or Connor Mac Lyrr appears in the several games and stories.

Background[]

Connor has been portrayed differently by various authors, composers, and developers. Some have him knighted by Graham directly after his return from the Realm of the Sun. Others have him knighted years after. Still others have him become the next heir of Daventry.

Fan Games[]

AGDI universe[]

ConnorKQ2RTS

In KQ2+ due to a curse put on Graham by Morgeilen he is left with no residing heir, as his son and daughter forged their own paths in other kingdoms. Fortunately, the new champion Connor MacLyrr (according to AGDI's website) had arose in Daventry and was worthy of filling in the void. When he returned to Daventr,y King Graham discussed the idea of making him heir. Connor wondered if he would be able to fulfill his obligations as Champion Eternal and still be able to rule Daventry. Since he had proven his nobility by defeating Lucreto and saving the world, King Graham knighted him as his First Knight. Thus he became his successor and heir to the throne.

Also, to cater to both sides of the fandom that like or hate Conner. Graham can either make him his heir, or send him back home (although this leads to a bad ending, where the kingdom will ultimately have no heir and its implied that The Father's curse has won). Or, if one unlocks an easter egg, Graham sends him on a quest to slay Cedric The Owl. (The easter egg openly stating that Graham only wanted Cedric dead because he had gone senile)

Connor's Triumphal Return to Daventry was announced by fanfare. There was a joyful atmosphere for the knighting of Connor Mac Lyrr by King Graham.

The Incorruptible One & Thanks for the Chosen One[]

Connor is portrayed as a over-zealous Christian, and a tad conceited, as he attempts to convince Rosella to become a Christian herself.[1][2][3]

Revenge of the Black Cloak Society[]

The New Perils of Rosella[]

Connor was a brutish lad, about Rosella (unofficial)'s age (seventeen), from her home in Daventry. He was known to be able to break himself free, and give his opponents a good walloping. [1][2][4]

Behind the scenes[]

The name 'MacLyrr'/'Mac Lyrr' originates from an early prototype storyline for King's Quest: Mask of Eternity, where Connor, then known as 'Connor mac Lyrr' would have been the son of a poor fisherman, and lived by the sea, born on the night the Mask of Eternity was shattered[5]. In the final release version of the story, he was known simply as Connor (or 'Connor of Daventry'), and his background was that of a "tanner". Lyrr is the Celtic god of the sea (the name means "sea"). The surname McLyrr or Mac Lir, signifies his children. One of his children was said to be... Manannan Mac Lir. Thus when Connor was moved inland, and was turned into a tanner, the surname 'mac Lyrr' was no longer relevant. Though there exists one summary where his father is described only as a villager, rather than a fisheman. Mac Lyrr, or 'mac Lyrr' means 'son of the Sea'.

It should be noted, that in the official King's Quest VII Authorized Guide and King's Quest Companion it is implied that Rosella only visits Etheria and she along with Edgar would remain the future heirs of Daventry. Derek however denies this 'possibility' and thinks it's only popular rumors and gossip-mongering based on the courtship of Rosella and Edgar read in popular story that has been spreading around the kingdom (but which the Royal Family has neither confirmed nor denied). Rosella is not yet married by the time of KQ8, in Roberta's plans Connor would have been an option for Rosella to marry in the future, having to choose between him and Edgar. That being said most sources imply that Rosella is the next heir to the kingdom. (in the reboot universe she ineligible due to the kingdom's strict rules against female leadership since before the days of Edward.)

Generally speaking most fan writers appear to link Connor with Sarah, based on the development information that she is his 'girlfriend'. Most people tend to link Rosella with Edgar, while ignoring any of Roberta's suggestions that Rosella and Connor might be a potential couple and Edgar being her other choice in a love triangle. The KQ7 Authorized Guide and Companion would continue to suggest that Rosella was the most likely candidate to become the future Heir of Daventry, but both 'supported' a possible marriage between Edgar and Rosella, while at the same time denying it's possibility. Probably to leave room for Roberta's own plans for the character, and future ideas for who she might ultimately end up with if the series had progressed far enough (such was the case with Connor).

In Roberta’s mind although Alexander was a peasant, he was already a “local knight” in the Kingdom. He was made the Marquis of Daventry upon his return to the kingdom.

  4. Now had she been Connor a brutish lad from her home of Daventry, she would have broken free of the swamp creature’s grasp and gave it a good walloping. She was however, not Connor, rather she was princess Rosella of Daventry, and a bit of a squirm was the best she could manage. Thus, the swamp creature dropped her down its gullet head first, gobbling her up. She kicked her legs defiantly in the air, as it swallowed her whole.
