The Altar of Azriel was an idol of the Lord of Death Azriel, and a pedestal which contained the Lever of Life. Connor took the Lever of Life in order to spin the Four Pedestals of Death to open Death's Door so that he could get into the Sanctum of Azriel. On the pedestal was an engraving that told him how to use the Lever.
