The Ice Shard was a large icecicle that fell from the roof of the Ice Lord's Stronghold when Connor fell through the celing. Connor picked it up stuck it in a gap in the front of the citadel, and melted it with his Flame Sword. He refroze it with the Ice Crossbow. This created a ice plank capable of unlocking a storage room in the mountain citadel.
