Pomegranate

The Pomegranate is a magic fruit from Faerieland Realm of Eldritch.

Background[]

In Eldritch can be found enchanted fruit. One of these is the pomegranate. ln ancient lore, the pomegranate was thought to symbolize regeneration and rebirth. Valanice needed an enchanted/magical fruit to save Ceres from a cursed wound and a fell magical disease. Luckily she didn't have to go to Tamir to find enchanted fruit.[1] For Faerieland has its own magical and enchanted fruit as well capable of healing, and extending life as long as the River of Life is flowing, and Cornucopia is filled (and magical fruit and foods is in abundance there) .

After Valanice used Ambrosia on the Cornucopia Maiden's cornucopia, it became filled with magic fruit, including pomegranates. Valanice took one to Attis who identified it as the symbol of birth, death and regeneration, but was too depressed to hope that it could heal Ceres and return her to human form. When Valanice touched the pomegranate to the tree Ceres had become, it healed her wound and broke the curse, transforming her back into her human form.

Behind the scenes[]

Valanice can retrieve a second pomegranate from the cornucopia, but there is no further use for it after healing Ceres.

The pomegranates' significance originates in Greek mythology, where it is tied to the story of Persephone in Hades. She was the daughter of Demeter (Ceres) who was tricked into eating six pomegranate seeds which bound her to live in the Underworld with Hades (Pluto) for six months out of the year, and the other half on the surface. This represented the death, birth and renewal of the seasons. As a plant goddess her going into underworld meant fall and winter, while her coming out to the surface and regrowth of plants meant spring and summer.
